I like the look of the new poster for next Summer's The Amazing Spider-Man, its the words I have a problem with. Thus far, all signs have indicated that a more appropriate tag line for the film would be The Retold Story. They keep trying to convince people that even though its a reboot, there is some deep dark story that just got skipped in the previous franchise and somehow this movie fits into that continuity. Lies!
It has annoyed me that so far no one has just come out and just admitted that the new movie really is a reboot and not just a flashback. Executive Producer Avi Arad claims "“It’s not a comeback. You have to look at it this way: Do you want to
know more about Spider-Man? This movie is going to tell stories that you
didn’t see in movies 1, 2, and 3.” I suppose one of the challenges of rebooting a franchise so soon is that the last attempt is still fresh in people's minds. After all the first Spider-Man only came out in 2002.
The problem is there is no way that this movie fits into the previous continuity, nor should it have to. Since Curt Connors was at least mentioned in all three previous movies, and will be the Lizard in this one, it makes no sense for the two continuities to be the same... unless there just happened to be two one-armed scientists named Curt Connors. Doubtful. I hate to rail on this movie. I like what I have seen so far, I just don't get why they want to try and shoehorn this into the existing trilogy. Especially because the last movie was such a turd. Just admit it and we can all move on together.
