Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Island of the Dinosoids

And here comes the obligatory dinosaur battle. There were a couple of redeeming elements. I enjoyed a giant Apache Chief fighting a dino - that could have gone on for a while longer. The story also had heroes transformed into dino peoples, or dinosoids. Not the worst thing ever, but this one was hardly breaking new ground.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Day of the Dinosaurs

This one started with Samurai checking out Wonder Woman's mysterious crack - which wasn't all that interesting until dinosaurs started coming out of it. We got clashes with a t-rex, triceroptops, and... Morlocks? This was basically a ripoff of the Time Machine as the super duo next met up with an "enlightened" species of weirdos. Surprise! The Morlocks were the good guys and I learned a valuable lesson about prejudice. This was a decent Samurai showcase for his fan club of 10, but this series has long since grown stale.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Mxyzptlk's Flick

Mxyzptlk the movie man is back with yet another movie themed caper.  Kudos to Robin for a hilarious line. When a caveman swung out of the movie screen and picked up the Batmobile, he exclaimed that it looked so real. Really Robin? As far as Mixed Pickles movies go, this one had an interesting gimmick of the imp being able to rewind and rewrite the action making the heroes do stupid things. Using the tape recorder to play Mxyzptlk's name backwards did seem a little unsportsmanlike, but it got the job done.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Elevator to Nowhere

Turns out the line between insanity and genious really is blurry. The elevator didn't really go "nowhere," it was in fact a time machine which resulted in Atom and Wonder Woman meeting not only Blackbeard the Pirate, but George Washington as he crossed the Delaware. Too bad George was kind of a jerk and good thing the Atom could fly. What a very, very strange episode... but I think I liked it.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Make-Up Monster

So, the premise to this was actually sort of intriguing. A movie makeup guy discovered a way to turn people into creatures using hormone treated costumes. Yeah, the science may be a bit off, but the potential is there. Not sure why that made him evil though. He chose to be a swamp monster, pterodactyl and King Kong, 3 great choices! It was nice for Flash to appear, but he didn't really do much. I sort of expected him to run fast at some point. This still wasn't amazing, but it was kind of fun seeing a few classic monsters battle the Super Friends.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Dangerous Dr. Dinosaur

I would like to congratulate myself on a notable 350 episodes now under my belt! That's somewhere on the order of 25% of the goal.

If you have learned anything about this show, you could probably guess from the title that the villain was in fact a lizard in a lab coat. You could probably also guess that he loved dinosaurs. What you may not be able to guess is that he used tiny dinosaurs that could rapidly grow to full size and then shrink again to perpetrate crimes. Another mediocre offering for ol Plas.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Time Trap

For the 300th episode we lucked out with a real treat. The Legion lured heroes into the past and abandoned them there. Aquaman and Apache Chief were stranded in prehistoric times, Green Lantern and Samurai in Camelot, and the Dynamic Duo in ancient Rome.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Rokan: Enemy From Space

As if the invasion of an Kryptonian dinosaur wasn't bad enough, the beasts laid eggs all over the earth that  began to hatch. And wouldn't you know it that an ice gondola proved ineffective. This really wasn't a very memorable or enjoyable episode. The menace was pretty lame and the adventure dragged on quite a bit. Had this been part of the previous season, it would have been one of the weakest of the main events. I also noticed that Aquaman seems to have a new voice and a wussier attitude that sadly had him the laughing stock of the League for years to follow.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Planet of the Neanderthals

This one opened strong with the Friends devastating an uprising of cavemen. And even though the idea of de-teching the Earth via time-traveling Washington monument makes little sense, this sure was a memorable outing. And that's not even considering the "Bat spider-web ejector."

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Operation Rescue

Two dino attacks in two days! And both with Pterodactyls! Have I mentioned how great the Teen Titans are? As if that weren't enough, the episode also featured spear throwing unicorn men. Speedy and Aqualad AKA Robin Hood and Gill Head were captured and being held to "protect the mutants secret." What secret you ask?  I guess just that they existed. "Wonder Chick" and Twinkle Toes took out the unicorns and the Titans all escaped. Once again, this was a pretty fun episode with lots of Titans camaraderie. Of the batch, this was probably the most over the top with the unicorn-men and also in the constantly employed nicknames bandied about. Still, its a keeper.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Space Beast Round-Up

Space dinos? Awesome! I could wrap this post up right now, but I'm not gonna.I am not sure what makes these Teen Titans episodes so much better than the rest of the DC Heroes series, but so far, I love them. Even watching Kid Flash launch like a rocket by spinning just makes me smile. Maybe its the fact that none of the heroes was very effective alone and so teamwork was really needed. The Justice League took more of a "split up the work" approach when it seemed like really any one of the heroes could have won the day, even solo.

Did I mention that Wonder Girl could fly?

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Beast With Two Faces

Enter Superboy Season 2. At this point, I have to say I am digging the series a little more than I was at the outset; I still think it could benefit from some supervillains, but at least the plots started to get a little more variety. Once again, thank goodness for Krypto. He was the one standout so far that gave this series some charm.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Prehistoric Pterodactyls

Original Airdate: September 17, 1966

In this age old tale, pterodactyls escaped from icebergs requiring intervention from the Ubermansh.

Best Part: Whoa! Those birds were huge AND missile proof. It was hard to appreciate their size until one ate a jet. This really was a job for Superman.

Worst Part: It was pretty ridiculous when Supes started taunting the pterodactyls by calling them “Terry.” And then he hauled them off to space to a better planet. Not so sure dinosaurs can hold their breath that long Kal.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Arctic Giant

Original Airdate: February 26, 1942

A frozen Tyrannosaurus was brought to the museum and accidentally thawed. What came out looked a lot more like Nessie and Godzilla's love child than a T-Rex, but she sure was big. Considering this short predated Godzilla by 12 years, the episode deserves some major props.

Best Part: Hey, if Supes isn't going to fly, then this is what I want to see. Superman went hoptastic jumping across town like a mad man and it was actually pretty fun to watch. He should consider an endorsement deal with Nike.

Worst Part: I expected Lois to be in peril from the monster, but she practically threw herself into its mouth forcing a rescue. C'mon Lois don't be so desperate. Superman will save you even if you chillax a bit.
