A New Ring Will Rule Them All

New footage from Green Lantern makes amends for all that has come before. This is now THE summer movie to see. How could we ever have doubted?

DC's Next Next Next Animated Movie is Doomed

At the WonderCon conference this weekend it was announced that next Spring's animated offering will be a loose adaptation of the classic JLA: Tower of Babel storyline originally published in 2000. The movie will be called Justice League: Doom.

This is truly great news as Tower of Babel is a great story detailing the true threat posed by Batman. I wont say any more about the plot, but fans should be happy as this is one title I consistently hear people requesting for an adaptation (along with Kingdom Come, Justice, and The Long Halloween which have all been placed in the "not at this time status"). The one downside I anticipate is complaints that all we get is Superman, Batman, Superman and Batman, and Superman with Batman and the League movies. There is some truth to that, but I guess they make what sells. As long as they are good, I say keep 'em coming.

Tale of Thor Vs. A Wolfman

Beholdest thou a clip from Thor: Tales of Asgard, full of April foolery. Not sure who picked this clip but I hope this isn't intended to showcase the movie's humor because, if anything, this makes me want to see the movie less. After that last two Hulk movies, Marvel was starting to get on a roll only to end their DtV line with this. Maybe Marvel/Disney will have better output down the road. At least the live action Thor looks amazing.

First Look at Ultimate Spider-Man

Swinging by in 2012. Ultimate Spider-Man has its work cut out for it. Spectacular Spider-Man was forced into early retirement despite it being the best Spider-Man, and possibly even Marvel animated series ever made. Nothing against this show, its just that the bar is mighty high. I like the design just fine though. Can't wait to see more from the series.

Wonder Woman Tweaked

I get it now! The Wonder Woman costume released last week was pretty much awful, on that I think we can all agree. But why would producers release, let alone come up with, such a terrible design? Because any changes made would necessarily be improvements. After being shocked and awed by the shiny pants and blue boots, this modified costume, seen during filming, will be viewed as a huge victory for fans. Whereas is they had just gone with this from the beginning I am sure some anti pants extremists would have been just as angry. At this point, I am still not expecting much, but the costume is definitely better. Let shiny, red boots, yay. Just call me a sheep. Baaaa.

Blue and Gold in Supes Future

Here is the first look at Booster Gold and Blue Beetle from the upcoming Smallville episode Booster. It looks like they are going with the new Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes, which is fine, I just wonder if there will be any mention of the fallen Ted Kord, Booster's original buddy, ala their team-up in the recent Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode Menace of the Madnicks! In any case, they both look pretty decent. Its hard to believe this duo will likely be the last new guest heroes to grace Smallville before the series wraps up in just a few episodes.

History of The Worlds Finest Team Ups

Tomorrow, Superman and Batman are Public Enemies. The two must team up to fend off villains and heroes looking to cash in on a $1 Billion bounty offered by President Lex Luthor. Even though Superman and Batman are frequently teamed up in the comics, even having their own comic book series (on which this DtV is based), it is surprising that the two haven't been matched up more over their on screen careers.

In the 60's The Batman Superman Hour packaged episodes of Batman and Superman / Superboy into a single programming block, but the heroes themselves never actually met.

The two first met in the 70's when both were members of the Super Friends team.

The pair again teamed up in against partners Lex Luthor and the Joker in the Superman Animated series episodes "Worlds Finest." Later on the series, Superman would team with Robin donning the Batman guise when Bruce Wayne went missing. The two would continue to work together as teammates on The Justice League.

Though Batman has never graced Smallville with a visit, the series third season teased fans with a character named Adam "Knight." Adam turned out not to be Batman, but his intellect, mysterious past, and fight training all pointed toward him being a young Bruce Wayne (until writers yanked him into a villainous direction). His blue/gray wardrobe even matched that of Batman.

A Batman vs . Superman movie was almost made a few years ago, but was cancelled at the last minute. A visual homage to the canceled project can be spied in I Am Legend.

"The Batman Superman Story" episodes of The Batman series' fifth season, much like in Public Enemies, opened with the two heroes facing off against the kryptonite powered cyborg Metallo.

Tomorrow we will see if this latest team up is worthy of the two heroes, but I imagine this isn't the last we will see of the two DC powerhouses sharing screen time.

UPDATE:

After teaming a second time in the Superman Batman sequel Apocalypse, the World's Finest heroes are now poised for their first team up in Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode, The Battle of the Super-Heroes! which airs this Friday March 25.
