Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special

For years, Aquaman has been the butt of many a joke at his expense. Well, finally the King of Atlantis was pushed too far, proving what a liability to the League he truly could be. This RCDC special did have some pretty funny sketches, among them the "That's Bane" gag where Batman's back was broken over and over again. High art this was not, but full of cheap laughs it was.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Till Doom Do Us Part

In 2005, Duck Dodgers returned to the world of DC (after the brilliant Green Loontern in 2003), this time paying homage to the Legion of Doom. Dodgers himself dreamed of himself donning a Superman-esque costume reminiscent of that worn years decades earlier in the Looney Tunes episode Stupor Duck - only the 'S' had been upgraded to a 'D.'

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Death of Superman

Superman died and it was all Firestorms fault! I guess I didn't realize that killing Superman was a recurring thing, but supposedly this episode took the lead from an out of continuity comic story - though I also picked up some serious Wrath of Khan / Search for Spock vibes, what with photon funeral, secret trance, and the recovery of the undead body,

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Escape From Space City

"The problem with building kingdoms is that they tend to get taken over." Words of wisdom from Darkseid. Not a lot redeemable about this one which may easily be the worst of what has been a surprisingly strong season - that is except for Aquaman fans as the Atlantean finally made a contribution. By this point, a robot rebellion was a little cliche even if Darkseid was involved. Its not that this was horrible, it was just boring with the team going from one modest peril to the next inside space station. On the plus side, no marriage proposals.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Seeds of Doom

After single handedly taking down a robot spider piloted by Lex Luthor, Cyborg the teenage tin man got invited to join the Super "Powers" team. Turns out that Cyborg missed being a normal guy but when he was called upon to defend the world against Darkseid, he decided being a member of the team wasn't so bad. At least it was better than living in Apokolips.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Superclones

Oh joy! Doppelgangers, El Dorado, Brainiac, what more could you ask for? I mean, maybe clone one of the good heroes, but still. The truth is that the episode squandered its stars and offered up a terrible story involving false accusations and courtroom drama. But this may just be the first appearance of a trunkless Superman... just 9 more to go.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - A Pint of Life

Nothing like a little lesson about blood transfusions to get your Saturday morning off on the right foot. Somehow the episode managed to work in quite a few Indiana Jones references making it actually halfway tolerable - although its shameful that Aquaman was almost killed by fish. Join us next week for Aquaman and the Temple of Doom!

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Terror on the Titanic

Meanwhile at the Hall of Justice Black Vulcan and Aquaman were just hanging out when they learned that a giant poop monster was released by divers searching the remains of the legendary Titanic. It turned out the poop was actually mutated algae, and the ship itself had also mutated into a monster. No explanation was ever made for how the Titanic was transformed into a sea monster, but lets be honest, no explanation would have made any sense. Now, you may have guessed, the ship was defeated by an iceberg. Ironic? More like idiotic. The original iceberg had already sunk the ship and it was still miraculously revived. Why should it be any different this time? I can not in good conscience recommend this episode to anyone.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Super Golden Friends

Thank you for being a Super Friend indeed. Sure, Batman had a mustache and Superman had boobs but this 2012 rotoscoped tribute to the Justice League once again made the Golden Girls hip.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Scaraghosta Sea

When an underwater earthquake caused a giant whirlpool, scientists were sucked into another realm full of pirates. Luckily Aquaman was nearby to stop the pirate from conquering the world with an unarmed two-man science submarine. Oh, and the pirates were also ghosts. This earns a solid mediocre rating. It wasn't great, but it wasn't that ridiculous either - aside from ghost pirates... and the existence of a sub aquatic realm under the bottom of the sea with its own atmosphere and sun... yeah maybe it was bad.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Lava Men

"Shades of Neptune, the water is on fire!" How did Aquaman manage the crisis? By calling Superman for help of course. Interestingly, the King of the Lava Men (who was responsible for the shenanigans) next drained the ocean so there wouldn't be any water to put out his fires... The only problem was that the water itself had already proven to be flammable somehow. The logic has really been abandoned by this point so I guess the fact that Aquaman flew is insignificant. Of course, the Lava Men were defeated by Superman, not with his freeze breath, but with his heat vision. Turns out he over-heated the Lava Men and I am left wondering if the writers were from Bizarro World.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Evil From Krypton

This is how you do it! Zy-Kree escaped from the Phantom Zone and barricaded himself in Superman's Fortress. Good thing Aquaman was able to sneak in the back door. I guess the main thing this had going for it was Zy-Kree's uncanny resemblance to the Phantom Zoner from Superman II. Not sure why they didn't just call him Zod but either way this was essentially a spin-off from the movie making it instant gold.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Return of Atlantis

Isn't Aquaman from Atlantis? Apparently not on Earth-SF. It seems like Mera in this universe is an evil Atlantean warrior who goes by Oceana. We were given an extra special treat in the form of a rare guest appearance from Rima to join up with an Amazon army. Not sure why Rima was chosen for this particular outing... except that she is one of the few non-Wonder women. In any case, the Amazons versus Atlanteans  is an great concept (Flashpoint anyone?) though it was strange that everyone got their own magic lasso including Rima. In all a pretty decent episode.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Mxyzptlk Strikes Again

Mr. Mixed Pickle was quite the aspiring film buff. In his previous appearance he took the Friends into the Wizard of Oz and before that he made them act out a script that he had written. This time he was back with a magic typewriter that made his stories come to life. Why he made Aquaman a cowboy I will never know. I admit it was fun seeing "Kid Superman" defeat Sheriff Aquaman. While not great, this was another reasonably fun episode. We are officially on a roll.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Incredible Crude Oil Monster

Oh the evils of big oil.  Fortunately, even though Aquaman almost drown because he had some oil on his pants, he was able to later swim through the big crude oil monster to rescue an eaten pair of Hawks. Luckily they found the creatures one weakness... laundry soap. After all, "the old soap trick always cleans up the bad guys." Good one Hawkman.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Dive to Disaster

In another case of "super" incompetence, Black Vulcan accidentally punctured a submarine when trying to stop it from crashing into Hawaii. In the meantime, Aquaman's marine friends got exposed to a nuclear leak and turned into sea monsters with neither sense nor sensibility. THEN, both heroes got eaten by the whale monster. I really hope this isn't the JLA's A team. So far, these Super Friends shorts have been pretty terrible and based on the titles of some of the upcoming episodes (The Rock and Roll Space Bandits!?), things look to get worse before they get better.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Just-Us League of Supertoons

Batduck proved a popular parody paving the way for a full on Justice League homage on Tiny Toons Adventures in 1992 during a segment of New Class Day titled Just-Us League of Supertoons. In the adventure, Batduck and Decoy were asked to join the League composed of Superbun,Wonder Babs, Little Dasher, Hawk Loon, Aquamutt, Pink Canary, Keen Arrow, and Scentana (extra points for the Zatanna homage). The invitation was revoked when the League realized Batduck had no powers.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Aquaman Dance Party

Poor Aquaman, in 2006 he was back in the spotlight again in a series of comedic segments on Adult Swim which showed him dancing in various locales from the Supermarket to the Taj Mahal.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Aquaman & Friends Action Hour

Perhaps a victim of his own success, Aquaman went from headlining his own show in the 1960's to being lampooned alongside the Wonder Twins as the laughing stocks among the superheroes. I think that writers struggled with making Aquaman heroic as a member of the dry land dwelling Super Friends. After years of seeming useless, Aquaman became the butt of the joke and the topic of countless lazy fish puns. The culmination of mockery for the washed up King of Atlantis was in the form of Cartoon Network Latin America's 7 episode run of The Aquaman & Friends Action Hour in 2003.
