Crisis of Infinite Episodes - MAD Presents: Extreme Superman

Oh dear. There are some genuinely funny MAD shorts, some that I will cover even if they never make it to DC Nation. This short is one of the worst MAD has to offer. From the ugly designs to the lack of "the funny," this was just a waste of the short slot for the week. At least it aired in conjunction with the release of Man of Steel... but c'mon can't we get something new. And by new, I don't mean more World's Funnest.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Revenge of Doom

The long awaited return of the Legion of Doom! So what exactly was the plan that brought the Legion out of retirement? To turn the Super Friends into crystal. Something I never learned in chemistry is that x-rays can counteract crystal and so the LOD was once again thwarted. I definitely was fun to see the Legion again, but this was a tad anticlimactic. I wondered why this was the idea they came up with for a mega return episode, but Lex's final line about how Superman was "crystal clear" made me realize the whole episode was written to set up that lame pun. Classic.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Invasion of the Fearians

I always loved this one as a kid. I loved how the Legion of Doom was able to trick the Super Friends into using their own powers to destroy the Earth. And I still love it.

See Green Lantern's Animated Parallax

Courtesy of DC Nation on Facebook, it looks like Hal Jordan may be taking a turn to the dark side on an upcoming episode of Green Lantern: The Animated Series as Parallax - at least the Avarice filled version as he dons an orange power ring (or several). Oh, and Brother Warth and Sinestro have been spotted as well. Yippee kayay.

Retrospective 2011 - Part 3

While May ushered in the summer season, things really got out of control in June and July with the release of two more Marvel movies, one from DC, the third Transformers, a direct to video movie tie in and a new live action series. 

X-Men: First Class

After X2, the X-Men franchise had been on the downward slide until X-Men: First Class attempted to reinvigorate the franchise. Even though some of the most popular mutants could not fit into the movie while maintaining series continuity, First Class still delivered an excellent story by adding depth to the characters of Magneto and Xavier. Perhaps due to ill will against previous X-Men films or because of the absence of Wolverine, the film failed to crack $150 million in the US. Still, good reviews and home video sales may be enough to ensure X-Men's second class get their deserved screen time in a sequel.

5 Awesome Tidbits in the New Green Lantern Trailer

In addition to everything Kilowog related (sucker punch, MCD voice, and boomer ring blast) there were 5 other reasons to get ridiculously excited by the newest Green Lantern trailer.

1) Hint at the Sinestro Corps logo (anyone up for a sequel).

Along with Hal v Sinestro, I would love to see me some Arkillo v Kilowog on the big screen!

2) Sword Constructs!

3) Flamethrower Construct!

4) A decent look at a nasty Parallax

The movie Parallax looks much better as a smoke monster than a giant yellow bug.

The Green Latern Corps Smile for the Camera

A new banner has appeared for Green Lantern showcasing a few more of the Corps members. I am not sure who one of these buggers is, and am taking the Internet's word for Ngila, but the rest I have listed (corresponding left to right) with links to their profiles for all the uninitiated "greenies" out there. Some involved in the production are calling this the "new Star Wars." I will say this, not since Star Wars has there been such potential for an ever expanding line of awesome action figures until now.

The Sinestro Corps is Coming

Now that All Star Superman is here, its time to start looking toward the next animated feature from DC, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. Conveiniently, the Superman DVD contains a sneak peek and while watching I sneaked a peek of the Sinestro Corps who look to be included in the film. Nice! It also sounds like this movie, like the previous Batman: Gotham Knight, will feature various animation styles for each tale. Can't wait.

Onscreen History of Sinestro

When asked to name a Green Lantern villain, most people (aside from geeks like me) would say one of two things: 1) The dude with the yellow ring or 2) Sinestro. Of course, Sinestro is the dude with the yellow ring and with a name like his, he is obviously a villain and is pretty much the quintessential Green Lantern adversary.

Sinestro first appeared in 1961's Green Lantern (volume 2) #7. Over the years his backstory has been fleshed out quite a bit. Not only was Sinestro once a Green Lantern, but he was one of the greatest Green Lantern's and the trainer of Hal Jordan. But his iron-fisted methods eventually landed him a banishment where he came across the yellow powered ring and returned as the arch enemy (and sometimes ally) of the Green Lantern Corps.

The mustached one's first onscreen appearance occurred in the 1978 animated Challenge of the Super Friends where he served as a member of Luthor's Legion of Doom.

In the 1979 disaster Legends of the Superheroes, Sinestro made his first live-action appearance.

It would be over 20 years before Sinestro's next appearance, on the Superman: The Animated Series episode In Brightest Day. The episode gave the Green Lantern at the time, Kyle Rayner, a Hal Jordanesque origin and showdown (aided by Superman) with Sinestro. This incarnation of the now red-skinned villain would go on to appear in the Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Static Shock animated series.

The 2003 episode of Duck Dodgers, The Green Loontern, had Duck Dodgers joining the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps. It was none other than Daffy Duck that was able to take down the intergalactic supervillain this time.

In the 2007 episode Ring Toss of The Batman, Sinestro finally got to fight his original nemesis Hal Jordan again, along with ring wielding Batman and Penguin.

In 2009, we got our first glimpse of the once heroic Sinestro in Batman: The Brave and the Bold's The Eyes of Despero! The episode depicted a villainous Sinestro falling from the good graces of the Green Lantern Corps.


The Sinister one was however given equal time as a hero in the alternate world exploits depicted in Deep Cover for Owlman.

Later in 2009, the Green Lantern: First Flight animated film gave the first onscreen look of Sinestro in his modern yellow Sinestro Corps uniform.

Sinestro is slated to appear in the upcoming live-action Green Lantern movie as a hero donned in emerald green paving the way for a spectacular fall from grace in a planned sequel.

In Brightest Day, More Green Lantern Concepts Hit the Web

Along the same lines as last weeks leaked concept art featuring a few of the Green Lantern Corps, here are a couple more images. The first features the Guardians of Oa, the beings who formed the Green Lanterns Corps.

The second features Sinestro, the greatest of the Lantern, and Hal Jordan's mentor. I like that he doesn't have a gigantic head like he did in his Super Friends appearances. The big head may be true to the comics, but it is a bit odd looking. Then again, who knows how close to final these images are. The giant head may make a comeback.

So far, I am liking everything I hear about Green Lantern. I really hope it does for the Emerald Crusader what Iron Man did for the Tin Can Man.
