Super History of Superman: Krypto the Superdog (2005)

The kid friendly animated series Krypto the Superdog elected to focus on the Super Pets rather than their human counterparts. After being launched as a test pilot, Krypto found his way to Earth but since Superman was too busy to be burdened with the responsibilities of a pet, he pawned the job off to a 9 year old kid for 39 episodes.

Actually, Superman did love his childhood pet, but this premise allowed the pup to take on his own secret identity when he wasn't teaming with Ace the Bat Hound. Superman didn't really do much in the series other than his minute or so appearance to hand off stewardship of Krypto, though the dog possessed the same morality and powers of master-El, making him a decent surrogate for the Man of Steel.

Check back next week for another chapter in The Super History of Superman.
