Marvelous Animation Tour - The Fantastic Four (1978)

A decade after the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man got the animated treatment, they would return in another animated series... well at least three of them would. Johnny Storm had been independently licensed and was thus not available for inclusion in the series. And, since its hard to call the show Fantastic Four with only three members, a fantastic fourth was created - H.E.R.B.I.E. the lovable robot.

This series didn't fair any better than the previous series, lasting just 13 episodes in the Fall of 1978 though a good number of Marvel villains were showcased during the short run. Of course Doc Doom was in the house, but so were Magneto, and Sandman as a member of the Frightful Four. Don't worry, this wouldn't be the last we would see of the the legendary team...

Shazam! First Look at a "For Short" end Captain Marvel

Isn't it groovy that this image of Captain Marvel from Superman / Shazam: The Return of Black Adam is both for a short and foreshortened?

The Black Adam image is also from the short, but alas, is not foreshortened.

The Superman / Shazam: The Return of Black Adam main feature will be released on DVD November 9th on a shorts collection with extended versions of The Spectre, Jonah Hex, and the still upcoming Green Arrow.

The episode is described as follows:

In Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam, Clark Kent’s latest interview subject is street kid Billy Batson. What Clark doesn’t know is that Billy is more than a feisty kid with a lot of heart – he has been chosen by an ancient wizard to represent the good of man as the World’s Mightiest Mortal just by invoking the name of the wizard, "Shazam!" Billy's powers come none-too-soon, as he also discovers he's being pursued by a centuries' old, murderous villain, Black Adam – a foe so powerful, even Superman can’t stop him alone. The all-star cast of Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam is led by Jerry O’Connell (Crossing Jordan) as Captain Marvel, George Newbern reprising his Justice League role as Superman, Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy) as Black Adam and two-time Emmy Award® winner James Garner (8 Simple Rules) as The Wizard.

It sounds fine and I am pretty sure it will be good, but it sounds an awful lot like the recently aired Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode, The Power of Shazam! as seen above (with Bats replaced by Supes). I will say though, these shorts have a great non-cartoony style. I can't wait to see how the Man of Steel will look. Just for fun check out Black Adam from the 1980's Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam! show. Seems like a pretty likable guy... oh how times have changed.

Avengers Offers "A" Super Tease

A new teaser for The Avengers movie reveals little, but Sam Jackson makes it cool.

Rooby Roo and Batman to Team Up Again

Zoinks! They crossed paths in the 70's but fate would have them meet again. According to voice caster extraordinaire, Andrea Romano, Batman: The Brave and the Bold will once again play respectful homage to Batman's wacky history by reteaming the Caped Crusader and the Scooby gang.

Super Might Not Be So, You Know

Fresh off of his success with The Rocker Dwight is back shopping his movie Super where he plays The Crimson Bolt. Wikipedia describes the movie as follows:

After his wife Sarah hooks up with a smooth-talking drug dealer named Jacques, Frank transforms himself into a superhero "The Crimson Bolt". Then with the help of a trusty wrench, Frank wages a one man war on crime. Libby, a local comic book store employee, transforms herself into a superhero named "Boltie" and becomes Frank's sidekick. The two then team up to take Jacques down.

Sounds interesting...

Green Lantern's Brightest Days #1

#1 Green Lantern: First Flight

This is it. The eagerly awaited end of the countdown reveals Green Lanterns brightest day (at least to date) and its no surprise that Hal Jordan's training story as depicted in the direct to video Green Lantern: First Flight has taken the top spot.

First of all, the movie is gorgeous. GL has never looked better. The movie also plays up the rich Lantern mythology including the diverse and extensive Lantern Corps, the Guardians, Oa, a nod to Ion, the Power Battery, and the Oath.

First Flight also gave GL one of the best incarnations of Sinestro over which he would ultimately triumph. Finally, after over 40 years of appearing in other heroes shows, it was about time Green Lantern got to be the star of his own movie.
