Iron Man's Right to Bear Arms

Leaked Iron Man footage hints that Iron Man two may pave the way for a spirited debate of our second amendment right to bear missile toting, flying armor suits. Oh, and War Machine is in it too bearing even more arms, though still only having two actual arms.

The Justice League: A Super Friendly Tour (Part 15)

Justice League on Smallville

Beginning in season 4 of Smallville, Clark Kent began to team up with other super powered heroes. In the episode Run, Clark teamed up with Bart Allen AKA Impulse (though pitched as the Flash).

The season 5 episodes Aqua and Cyborg introduced Aquaman and Cyborg respectively.

In season 6, the Green Arrow arrived in Smallville and began to assemble the heroes all building toward the episode Justice in which the four guests along with Clark Kent teamed up to take down Lex Luthor's kryptonite experimentation facility. This episode introduced the heroes names "Impulse," "Aquaman," etc with Clark called "Boy Scout." Chloe Sullivan provided intel using the name "Watchtower."

Season 7 added the Black Canary to the League in Siren.

And, although they were never affiliated with the League, other Leaguers have also appeared on the show including the Oreo loving Martian Manhunter, Clark's cousin Supergirl, and Zatanna Mistress of Magic.

Season 9 will likely continue to introduce more Leaguers, possibly even including the infamous Wonder Twins.

Lantern Brings in Some Green

The first week sales numbers are in for the Green Lantern: First Flight DVD movie. The movie sold 158,238 units for a total of $2,587,191. Keep in mind, Blu-Ray sales, an increasing portion of the home media market, are not represented by this number. Having said that, of the 5 DC comics releases, GL came in 4th about 50% more units (30% more "green") than Wonder Woman, but nearly even with Justice League: The New Frontier. Compare the rest of the first week sales for DC and Marvel in the first graph.

The second graph compares overall DC to Marvel sales. Keep in mind again that Marvel sales began earlier than DC back when Blu-Ray was a smaller player in the market. When viewed with the Marvel sales figures, it looks like DC may have the edge (GL will likely end up between Wonder Woman and New Frontier). The upcoming Superman Batman: Public Enemies may solidify this position, especially if it overtakes the popular Hulk VS. Anyhow, good for GL. Hopefully the sales will warrant the "green"lighting of a sequel.

There's a Crisis Coming

By now we all know that Superman / Batman - Public Enemies will be the next animated movie from DC comics (arriving Sept 29th). But what comes next? The answer: Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths - likely arriving in Spring 2010.

Now I am not really sure what this means exactly, but there are some good clues in the title. In DC comics, a "crisis" usually refers to a crossover between parallel universes, often times involving the Golden Age Justice Society (of Earth 2) and the then "Modern Age" Justice League of Earth 1). Of course, the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" storyline of the 80's did away with parallel worlds in DC, only to be undone in a more recent (Infinite) Crisis.

On story, "Crisis Between Earth-One and Earth-Two!" involved the The JLA and JSA teaming up to fight the Anti-Matter Man who warped reality shifting people between worlds. In "Crisis Between Two Earths," the JLA and JSA went to New Genesis to fight Darkseid alongside the New Gods.

Whether the movie will adapt one of these stories, another crisis story, or create an all new crisis event remains to be seen. Another possibility is that this movie will deliver a variation of the long rumored Justice League: World's Collide movie - a never to materialize movie set between the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited series involving the Crime Syndicate of America and explaining things like where Wonder Woman acquired her invisible jet.

I have to say, I have been quite happy with the DC animated releases. As you can expect, they have been Superman and Batman heavy, but movies like Justice League: New Frontier and potentially Crisis on Two Earths allow other heroes to shine while allowing Batman and Superman's inclusion to sell to the masses. Hopefully next year will also provide a Flash solo film and maybe even a follow-up to Green Lantern: First Flight. Needless to say, when more news is available it shall be found here.
