Crisis of Infinite Episodes - New Teen Titans: Groundhog Minute

Warp, the villain from the epic How Long is Forever? made his return in this short which had the Titans trapped in a looping minute. Even though the time skipping was short on laughs, the final reveal of the Titans having landed in the prehistoric age was satisfying... even if it doesn't make a ton of sense that next week they were back to modern day business as usual. Maybe Larry had something to do with their return to the present.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Stupor Duck

A decade after Bugs Bunny paid homage to Superman (and the troops) in the 1943 Merrie Melody short, Warner Brother gave Daffy Duck a chance to don the super-suit in the Looney Tunes short Stupor Duck. Like Bugs, Daffy also got the classic bullet / locomotive / tall building intro and also got a scene as his mild mannered alter ego, in this case Cluck Trent. On the other hand, Stupor Duck was a lot dumber than Super-Rabbit - mistakenly interfering when his services were not needed and trying to thwart a fictional villain. The end result was a fairly funny homage to the Man of Steel with the classic comedy of Daffy Duck. I approve.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Super-Rabbit

The Merrie Melodies short Super-Rabbit was released theatrically in 1943 during the same period as the Fleischer / Famous Superman shorts. The rabbit of tomorrow clearly paid homage to the popular Ubermensch of the day. Aided by super power granting (and possibly Popeye inspired) carrots, Super-Rabbit fought for the rights of Texan rabbits - even donning a mild mannered disguise to assist in his mission. By the end, this got quite sentimental with Bugs honoring "true heroes" fighting in WWII. This really is a choice homage to the Man of Steel and his values of truth, justice, and the American Way.

Super History of Superman: Superboy (1988-92)

The wacky Superboy series ran for four seasons from 1988-1992 and over the course of those four years it went through two Superboys and two titles, being renamed The Adventures of Superboy in the third year. While the series was still popular after its fourth season, it ran into rights issues leading to its ultimate early demise. And as goofy and random as the stories sometimes were, the show had a certain charm and light-heartedness that was endearing... if you could get past the extremely poor production values and bad writing.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Pink Panther Strikes Again

After that mega run of Plastic Man zane, I thought it might be fun to go on a bit of a lengthy detour through nostalgia land. After today's lesser known gem, I plan to spent the next couple of weeks traveling through the land of the Brothers Warner and their many parodies and homages to the characters of DC comics which will take us from 1943 up until the 90's or so. I will leave some of the most recent Warners episodes fro later. But before I get carried away, lets take a look at this quick homage from the 1976 movie, The Pink Panther Strikes Again.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Plastic Man Recap

Although it had its moments, for the most part Plastic Man is not a series I would eagerly revisit. I realize the show set out to be ridiculous and often succeeded, but that didn't automatically make it good. Don't get me wrong, there were elements of the show that I enjoyed such as the villains, Plastic Man's super powers and even the character of Penny, but the 20+ minute running time was asking a lot and resulted in the stories often being stretched too thin. The 10 minutes episodes were often just as solid if not more so than the longer ones because the main difference was that they cut out about 10 minutes of slow paced globetrotting chases.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Royal Gargoyle Foil

Mother of Maui, this was it, the final episode of the series. And leaping luau, there was a demonic gargoyle with a surprisingly gentlemanly voice. This played a lot like an episode of Scooby Doo with a haunted house, secret passages, and even an unmasking - though I think I prefer Daphne to Penny and I would gladly trade Hula for Shaggy.  I may be going easy on this episode by saying I didn't hate it, but I really didn't like it. It just felt off. It really was like watching a Scooby homage rather than an original show. Not a great note to end on, but hey, at least I survived another series. Up next, another Plastic man series. Maybe its time for a little detour first...
