Weekly Top 5 in Superhero Shows - 29 July 2011
It was the fuzzy, camera phone captured and leaked images of The Amazing Spider-Man's partially rendered computer animated foe, the Lizard that built the most buzz this past week. Too bad the movie is still a year away. Here are the Top 5 stories from the last week in Superhero Shows.
1. Leaked Images of The Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard
2. Image of the Captain America: The First Avenger Surprise Cameo
3. Leaked Pilot Gives New Images of Wonder Woman Getting Dressed
4. First Look at the Hulk and Fully Assembled Avengers
5. Superman Will Fight The Elite in 2012
Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The New Adventures of Superman
Although 1966 and 1943 both seem like a long time ago, while my dad had not yet been conceived when the Fleischer and Famous shorts were made, he and my mom were getting busy during the debut of the next DC Comics animated series, The New Adventures of Superman. In other words, there was quite a bit of time between series, 23 years to be exact. In the interim, Superman had officially learned to fly.

Video of Captain America's Ending Scene, Official and in HD
In case you forgot to stay after the credits of Captain America: The First Avenger (or missed the leaked Avengers trailer), fear not. Marvel has officially released video footage of the Avengers, coming summer 2012. Watch it now in high definition, some assembly required. Screen grabs provided at no extra cost.
Captain America (1979) - Discount Review
Diabolical Scheme: Brackett planned to detonate a neutron bomb in Phoenix and then rob the irradiated gold repository. Honestly, I had a hard time understanding the scheme.
Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Superman Classic
Although just released in 2011, the Superman Classic fan-film performed the amazing feat of capturing the essence of the 1940's Superman with less than one minute of run-time. Combining modern animation with the traditional inspirations of the Fleischer short's tone (especially The Mechanical Monsters) and music from the 1948 Superman serials resulted in a timeless piece of animation celebrating the Last Son of Krypton. I absolutely adore this short and its a shame that it offers such a brief glimpse at an amazing take on Superman.

Leaked Pilot Gives New Images of Wonder Woman Getting Dressed
The trickle of leaks from the failed 2011 Wonder Woman pilot has escalated. The dam has burst and lets just say the pilot is now "out there." Unfortunately, the scenes which had previously leaked were pretty much the highlights of the mediocre pilot - with the exception of the suiting up montage!
Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Superman Serial
In 1948, a few years after the animated Superman's successful foray into theatrical serials, the live-action Superman serial debuted. This 15-parter told the story of Superman beginning on the ill fated Krypton up until, as Clark Kent, he began to work for the Daily Planet. In this adventure, Superman faced off against his timeless foe, the Spider Lady - wait who!? Although the black and white production was mostly done in live action, for technical and budgetary reasons, the in flight sequences were all done with animation. The result was a bit strange but I guess people didn't know any better back then.
Hulk to Star in a 'SMASH'ing New Series
Another big reveal at Comic Con last week was the announcement of a new animated series from Marvel staring the Hulk family. The promotional image for Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. showed agents Hulk, Red Hulk, Skaar son of Hulk, and She-Hulk. This image is literally all that is known about the series so far. I am a little intrigued by the inclusion of more recently created Skaar and Red Hulk, I think that offers potential for some fun new elements; however, I don't really get the whole 'Agents of S.M.A.S.H.' thing. Are they really agents? What is SMASH? Will Red She Hulk appear? Stay tooned for answers.

Onscreen History of Zatanna
She loves speaking backwards to cast her spells, its time for the "Yrotsih Neercsno" of Zatanna. The magician mistress Zatanna Zatara first appeared in 1964's Hawkman #4. Usually seen with her trademark top-hat and tails, Z first appeared onscreen in Batman: The Animated Series in the 1993 episode bearing her name.
Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Super Lulu
Back in 1947, long before DC dreamed up Supergirl, Little Lulu dreamed her up first. Now, I know practically nothing about Little Lulu outside of this 'toon, but I guess she was reasonably popular back in the day. In Super Lulu, Lulu an avid reader of Superman fell asleep after having been forced by papa to read Jack and the Beanstalk instead of her favorite Superman comic.

Six Minutes of Animated Red and Green Lanterns
Cartoon Network has released the entire 6 minutes of Comic Con footage from the Green Lantern animated series comprised of several short scenes including a smackdown between the Red and Green Lanterns. I sure hope Dex-Starr shows up at some point.
Superman Will Fight The Elite in 2012
Along with Friday night's announcement that DC would 2012 would see the release of a two-part animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, DC also announced the summer release of a movie titled Superman vs The Elite. The question on everyone's mind now is, "Who are The Elite?"
Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Snafuperman
Here is one I had never head of before. Back during WWII, the US military commissioned a series of "Private Snafu" cartoons to educate soldiers. Apparently, Private Snafu was a freaking moron, so he would show the soldiers what not to do such as leak classified information or blow yourself with a mine. Interestingly, Dr. Suess was even enlisted to write some of the Snafu shorts.
Captain America Declares Box Office Victory
Captain America made a mighty splash at the box office this weekend amassing $65.8 million. The total was enough to edge out Thor for the biggest superhero opening of the year (by just 100,000).
Image of the Captain America: The First Avenger Surprise Cameo
Obviously, spoilers to follow. According to the Reuters review, there is going to be a surprise cameo in the Captain America movie by none other than...
Dazzling New Trailer for The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra
Another gem delivered at the 2011 Comic Con was a sneak peek at the upcoming mini-series The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra. With a planned 26 episodes, calling this a miniseres is a bit misleading. The original series ran for 60 masterful episodes consisting of three 20 episode seasons. It seems like Korra could play more like a 4th season than just a mini. Korra is the grand daughter of Ang, she being the new Avatar like her grandpa.
