Raging Animated Red Laterns Revealed

Here are a couple of first look images of the Red Lantern Corps from the upcoming Green Lantern Animated Series. i got these from the promo video below. I believe the dude next to Zilious Zox is Razer, a Red Latern created just for the series.

Leaked Images of The Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard

Last night at Comic Con, the Lizard was revealed onscreen in all his CG glory. Well, it was only a matter of time until some images of Lizzie were leaked showing how he will appear in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, and here they are.

The Dark Knight WILL Return in a 2012 Direct to Video Release

It was officially announced and relayed by IGN at Comic Com that an animated version of The Dark Knight Returns is in fact in the works and planned for release in 2012, possibly to coincide with the DVD release of The Dark Knight Rises. The most surprising element of this report is that, following in the footsteps of Harry Patter 7 Parts 1 and 2, the movie will be split into 2-parts.

Weekly Top 5 in Superhero Shows

I am toying with the idea of a quick weekly recap with the Top 5 new stories and a summary of other notables. Let me know what you think! This week, it was the leaked and then official releases of  The Amazing Spider-Man trailer that webbed up the most traffic, besting the leaked trailer for the Avengers. That should bode well for the Web-Head come summer 2012.

The Avengers Black Widow Revealed

Its probably safe to guess that Thor and Hulk's reveals should be arriving soon, but for now Marvel.com has unveiled The Avengers Black Widow costume. Looks like she has had her hair cut since Iron Man 2, but she remains very loyal to the comic book design.

First Look at the Avengers Hawkeye Costume

Marvel.com has released an image of expert marksman Hawkeye in costume as he will appear in the upcoming Avengers movie. I think they did a pretty good job of incorporating the characters trademark purple without it looking completely ridiculous. I will be honest, I don't know too much about Hawkeye other than he is pretty much Marvel's Green, or at least Purple Arrow. It will be interesting to see how well he is received in the movie as I suppose that could lead into a Hawkeye spin-off.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - She-Sick Sailors

In 1944, two years after Famous Studios wrapped up production on the expensive Superman shorts, they revisited their glory days with Popeye the Sailor in She-Sick Sailors. I guess Famous still had the rights to use Superman because not only was Superman himself shown and referenced (as opposed to a parody) but even the Famous Superman theme got a play.

The Wolverine to Face off Against the Silver Samurai

Though it is not a huge surprise, Hugh Jackman has made it official, announcing that the villain of 2012's X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 AKA The Wolverine will be the Silver Samurai. Quoth Wolverine, "...I will be filming Wolverine 2 in October. Chris McQuarrie has written a fantastic script and it should turn out really good. I’ll fight the Silver Samurai in it so that should be exciting. Most of the filming will take place in Japan."

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Super Mouse in The Mouse of Tomorrow

Better known today as Mighty Mouse, this Terrytoons produced flying rodent first appeared in the 1942 theatrical short as Super Mouse in The Mouse of Tomorrow. Basically, the mouse found a supermarket, ate super soup, super celery, and super cheese and became Super Mouse. Super Mouse buffed up, beat up some cats and freed his mouse friends all while wearing a costume that highly resembled Superman's (though a few sizes smaller). Mighty Mouse had most of the same powers as Superman including flight, strength, x-ray vision, and being bulletproof, but he also had telekinesis.

Shiny New Avengers Teaser Poster Unveiled at Comic Con

This is pretty much the same as the previous Avengers teaser poster, but it sure is a heck of a lot shiner.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Goofy Groceries

In 1941, Warner Brothers under the Merrie Melodies label released Goofy Groceries. I am not going to really review this cartoon because I am pretty sure its like "really ground breaking" and stuff and I am no expert on anything non-superhero of the era. Lets just say its basically the 1940's version of Toy Story in a grocery store, which does sound pretty cutting edge if I put it that way.

Anyways, after a few minutes of dancing soup cans and a monocle wearing potato taking a dip in the sink, a gorilla animal cracker freaked out. Turtle soup tanks and gingerbread paratroopers proved no match and finally "Superguy" leapt off of a box of soap chips. The doofus got scared and turned into a baby. And thus, we were given the first animated superhero parody. Interestingly, as far as I can tell, Goofy Groceries debuted in March of 1941 and Superman AKA The Mad Scientist on September, so this parody actually predated the animated Superman. How 'bout that?

Three Leaked Clips From the Failed Wonder Woman Pilot

UPDATE: Vids have been removed, but you may still be able to find copies on youtube of the action scene and tit talk scene while they last.

Three more clips from the failed NBC Wonder Woman Pilot have found their way online. One has some wire work action, including some lasso whipping, bracelet ricochets, and oh yeah, a brutal pipe through the throat. Another has an uncomfortable amount of "tit" talk. This shows looks like it was a disaster waiting to happen, but since the pilot is in the can, why not just release the whole thing and get it over with? Clocking in at 6 minutes, these clips probably make up about 10% of the total airtime.

First Look a Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance Posters

Comic con is almost upon up and one of the first fruits is a first look at 2012's Ghost Rider sequel / reboot, Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance. Thanks to Bleeding Cool we have spotted some posters for the movie, but unfortunately they don't really give anything about the movie away. Frankly, with the movie coming out in February its about time we get something substantive, this is a tad weak. With next Summer's big releases all having leaked trailers this week, I am suspecting a legit Ghost Rider trailer may be imminent.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Diverting Detours Through the Multiverse

In the words of Flushed Away's Toad, I never said these detours would be amusing, merely diverting. At present I have a tally of 1,387 episodes to go (and growing) so why try and plow through them all without stopping along the way to smell the roses? Here is the low down on what to expect as we proceed.

During the 70+ years of DC animation, there have been a number of animated parodies, homages, rip-offs, and miscellaneouses that deserve a little looksie of their own. There is no way I can be completely comprehensive, but as much as it fancies me I will delve into some of what I deem as the worthiest nuggets. These jaunts will not contribute to the ongoing episode count, nor will they make you smarter, but they may prove the tipping point in over-stuffing brains with useless information. One last point, I may or may not hit these detours in a chronological or even logical order, but rest assured, the order makes sense to me.

Until tomorrow.

Superman Returns to Krypton in Gorgeous Deleted Scene

Nostalgic, cinematic, beautiful, reverential, sort of pointless. All these phrases could be used to describe the 2006 Superman reboot-sequel movie Superman Returns as well as this deleted scene. I remember hearing at the time of the DVD release that a substantial sequence involving Superman's return to Krypton was cut and being saved for a sequel film (although there may be no truth to the rumor). Unfortunately, even a $200+ million box office take wasn't enough to earn the movie a sequel of its own leaving the finished sequence in limbo... until now. This scene is amazing. Not sure it would have really improved Superman Returns or propelled the film any further at the box office, but it deserves to be seen.

Crisis of Infinite Episodes - Fleischer / Famous Superman Recap

Before embarking on this journey I had only seen a couple of these shorts. Now, having seen all 17, I would definitely say that fans of Superman should see some of them (the essential five below). While I don't think it is possible to overstate the importance of these shorts in establishing Superman as a cultural icon or to superhero animation generally, I really don't think they are all essential viewing. The shorts were beautifully animated, visionary in their scope, and continue to influence the genre. All I am saying is historical importance does not guarantee entertainment value. The characters in these shorts have no depth and the plots are paper thin. Although there is fun to be had they are severely lacking in substance. As much as I am glad to have finally bit the proverbial speeding bullet and watched these episodes, I think I am ready to move onto something new - even if the next series also stars Superman.

Essential Five:
1. Superman (a.k.a. The Mad Scientist) - Where it all began
2. Eleventh Hour - Best of the propaganda shorts. Don't get on his bad side
3. The Mechanical Monsters - The robots are classic
4. The Electric Earthquake - For the underwater sequences alone
5. Showdown - A nice change of pace from the series' normal plots

Series Stinker:
Destruction, Inc. - Not only boring, but also mummyless
