After a couple of years with no new episodes, Super Friends rebranded itself with a vengeance and returned strong in 1984 with the The Legendary Super Powers Show. There are a few things that set this season apart. For one, the team's ranks were expanded with the introduction of Firestorm. I tell you what, the dude really made an impression on me because to this day I am a sucker for the character.
Perhaps more notable was the introduction of Darkseid - the best (or worst) thing to happen to the Friends since the Legion of Doom. Along with Kalibak and Desaad, these denizens of Apokolips gave the heroes a legitimate threat from week to week.. Lastly, although a lesser change, Brainiac was revamped as a maniacal and much more menacing machine.
The season's 14 episode run was made mostly of 11-minute segments with two 2-parters who along with Darkseid pitted the heroes agains other DC mainstays such as Mirror Master and the nefarious Lex Luthor.
