Crisis of Infinite Episodes - The Capricious Crony

So, after yesterday's episode, I started making excuses in my head for this show. Methought, "Maybe there just wasn't as much Superboy source material to work with as there was with Superman." I did a little research though and learned that Superboy had 20 years of publication under his junior sized belt by the time Adventures of Superboy was made... In fact, he was one DC's first heroes to have his own title. By the mid 1960's in the comics, the Legion of Super-Heroes had been introduced as had Bizarro in the pages of Superboy. Now the New Adventures of Superman wasn't Shakespeare, but at least there was some reference to the comic book villains. Superboy sure could have done a better job incorporating some ideas from the books; I can't believe that Superboy spent 20 years in his comic just rescuing eggs for monsters.

So Superboy's "strangest" foe is actually more than one person, a pair of bugle tooting, lightning spewing aliens. Pretty strange eh? So, Superboy stopped them, then they got away, so Krypto had to catch them again... Then he helped them back on their space journey. I sure hope this series picks up soon, these episodes have been pretty brutal so far.

Heroes: The shell-heads all came back, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael, along with Splinter, and  Keno the karate kicking pizza boy.

Villains: Shredder and minions Tokka and Rahzar (don't call them Rocksteady and Bebop)

Diabolical Scheme: Shredder got his hands on the same ooze that made the turtles into humanoids and he planned to make his own breed of mutants.

You know, sometimes I worry that my readers may feel they arent getting their money's worth out of a short write up. If anyone feels that way, may I remind you these posts are a free public service. More importantly, what can you really expect from a sub-six minute segment involving Superboy and a monster on the loose for the 10th time? The only differentiator to measure greatness is they type of monster involved and a mastodon is a tricky one... to judge I mean, its not really a dinosaur even though its prehistoric. Its big, but it ain't a giant monkey. Really, the most interesting thing here is that before the elephant got giant (and changed species) it was so cute and little. I guess that makes it a tad more exotic of a monster than a giant alligator.

And the Krypto saga continues. Doing a little more research, I discovered that back in the Golden Age comics, Krypto DID have a secret identity AND disguise. As Skip, the Kent family dog, Krypto wore a dyed patch of fur that could be dissolved with heat vision upon transformation into Superdog. How ridiculously marvelous!

The inevitable has happened. Before I committed to daily posts that traversed DC's animated library, I would have been foolish to not at least assess the possibility of being able to watch all of these various episodes. And mama didn't raise no fool. I have an extensive DVD collection of DC animation, in fact, I think I own every episode DC has released. Unfortunately, there are scads of shows that have not yet received a complete home video release including The Adventures of Superboy (as well as seasons 2 and 3 of the New Superman Adventures, Shazam!, The Plastic Family, Baby Plas, assorted Super Friends, most of Static Shock, season 2 of The Legion of Superheroes, and on, and on). Nevertheless, I was confident that through creative and resourceful means I would be able to get my grubby paws on these episodes when the time came. Well, so far I have been 100% correct, until now.
