The Merrie Melodies short Super-Rabbit was released theatrically in 1943 during the same period as the Fleischer / Famous Superman shorts. The rabbit of tomorrow clearly paid homage to the popular Ubermensch of the day. Aided by super power granting (and possibly Popeye inspired) carrots, Super-Rabbit fought for the rights of Texan rabbits - even donning a mild mannered disguise to assist in his mission. By the end, this got quite sentimental with Bugs honoring "true heroes" fighting in WWII. This really is a choice homage to the Man of Steel and his values of truth, justice, and the American Way.
