The Incredible Hulk: Pilot (1977) - Discount Review

Heroes: The Incredible Hulk

Villains: Tabloid reporter Jack McGee

Diabolical Schemes: Trying to get to the bottom of the mysterious Hulk sighting, Jack McGee ambushed David Banner and lab-mate Elaina accidentally blowing up the lab, killing Elaina and giving Dave an excuse to play dead as he hit the road for 82 episodes.

Coolest Moment(s): I can always enjoy an enraged Hulk tearing a car to pieces. The original transformation scene was enjoyable as was Hulks escape from the science lab.

Worst Moment: Nothing stood out as terrible, but the Hulk versus fisher-family was kind of stupid.

Review in 50 Words or Less: A slow old fashioned build rather than a rock-em sock-em action adventure, this Hulk is more wounded animal than monster, earning more sympathy than fear. Although the drama was decent, this outing was incredibly light on superheroics – but at least this Jade Giant is one worth cheering for.

Interesting Tidbit: The Hulk from this TV series gave me frequent and recurrent nightmares as a child and for my money is much more frightening than the cartoony Hulks that have followed.

  1. This movie was outstanding in so many ways. I feel that it was ahead of its time.

The movie was very well written, and the music was memorable. All of the actors did a great job. It was no doubt that this movie pilot boosted even more interest in the incredible hulk and many episodes followed. Today even with 2 Hulk Movies out...and more digital special effects..they cant touch Bill Bixby and Lou Ferigo's acting ability.

Although the origional comic book charictor "The Hulk" depicted Bruce/David as having had gained his Hulk powers from a Gamma Explosion. The idea of injecting gamma radiation was not bad either...it was just different then the origional idea.

I did enjoy the whole scientist searching for a way to tap into the hidden strength that all humans have storyline.

The overall feel of the movie was very down to earth and the Hulk seems weaker then the comic book depictions and I didn't like that the hulk did not speak in any episodes. I think it would only add the movie.

I also enjoyed the car tearing and smashing and the man to hulk transformations and the excaping from the labratory.

The origional David turning into the hulk scene buildup was brilliant and awesome.
I have the movie pilot an 8 out of 10 being perfect.
