Onscreen History of Giganta

The gargantuan villainess Giganta first sprang up in the pages of Wonder Woman #9 way back in 1944. Although Giganta eventually gained the super ability to change size, a reverse Atom of sorts, she was originally just a "strong woman" type having been turned from a gorilla into a human.

Giganta gained mainstream popularity in 1978 as a member of the Challenge of the Super Friends' Legion of Doom. The leopard skin clad giantess was often paired against the heroic Apache Chief who could similarly become gigantic.

Giganta's origin story was tweaked for its telling in the episode History of Doom in which she was never an ape.

A romance between the Atom and Gianta was played for laughs in the Legends of the Superheroes 1979 variety show.

Giganta next appeared in 2003's Justice League episode Secret Society. Although she appeared more feminine than ever, this version of Giganta was closer to the comic origins making Giganta a prime supporter / lover of Gorilla Grodd.

Giganta continued to clash with the League throughout the run of Justice League Unlimited.

Back in the leopard print, Giganta made a cameo appearance as a member of the mob in the 2009 Superman / Batman: Public Enemies.

Most recently, Giganta made another quick appearance in the 2011 Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode Powerless! during a montage of possible fates for the powerless Batman... SPLAT!
