And now a word from the sponsors... I thought a little break from Super Friends was in order so lets take a week or so to look at some of the classic commercials that may have aired on Saturday mornings in the 80's.
Believe it or not, this 1984 seat belt ad from the US Department of Transportation was the very first onscreen appearance of Supergirl. For some odd reason, the Girl of Steel was paired with the Three Pigs and Big Bad Wolf to "drive" home the message. A panicked Humpty Dumpty also appeared near the end of the spot. Not sure how effective this was, I mean, if I could choose between wearing a seat belt or being saved midair by Supergirl after being ejected from a car, I would choose the later. Too bad this 80's Supergirl wasn't rocking the trademark headband.
